Medicare Costs in Missouri

“So what’s this going to cost me?” It’s the fairest question in the world, and the honest answer is: it depends on the choices you make. But that’s not a dodge — let’s break the pieces down so you can see exactly where the dollars go.

Part A: usually $0 per month

The hospital piece. Most people don’t pay a monthly premium for Part A because they earned it through years of paying Medicare taxes. There is a deductible if you’re admitted to the hospital, and Medicare sets that amount fresh each year.

Part B: a standard monthly premium

The doctor-and-outpatient piece. Part B has a standard monthly premium set every year, plus an annual deductible. If your income is above a certain level, you may pay a bit more through an adjustment called IRMAA — worth knowing if you’re a higher earner.

Then you pick a path — and the costs branch

  • Medicare Advantage (Part C): often a low or even $0 monthly premium, but you pay copays as you use care, up to a yearly out-of-pocket maximum that caps your risk.
  • Medigap + Part D: a monthly premium for the supplement (and a small one for the drug plan), in exchange for very predictable, low out-of-pocket costs when you actually need care.

Neither is “cheaper” across the board — one front-loads predictability, the other keeps premiums low and spreads cost across usage. Which wins for you depends on your health and how you’d rather pay.

The number that actually matters

Not the premium — your total yearly cost: premiums plus what you’ll realistically spend on care and prescriptions. We run those numbers for the specific plans in your area, with current-year figures, so you’re comparing the real bottom line instead of a sticker price.

Choose logically — for you, not for the neighborhood

The mistake we most want you to avoid is picking a plan because “Mary down the road says hers is the one to get.” Mary isn’t you. A Medicare Supplement can be exactly right for one person and exactly wrong for the next — same plans, opposite answers — because your health, your budget, your prescriptions, and your long-term plans are yours alone. Both paths carry long-term effects and strategies worth understanding before you commit. So get genuinely educated on what fits you, ask your advisor the pointed questions — and this part matters — don’t hold back the sensitive details. We can only steer you right if we can see the whole picture.
