Medicare Supplement (Medigap) in Missouri
Medicare Supplement insurance — everyone calls it Medigap — does one job well: it fills the gaps Original Medicare leaves behind, so a hospital stay or a stack of doctor bills doesn’t hit your wallet all at once.
What Medigap Actually Does
Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) covers a lot, but not everything — it leaves you with deductibles, copays, and coinsurance that can add up. A Medigap plan, sold by a private insurer, steps in to cover those gaps. The plans are standardized and labeled by letter (Plan G, Plan N, and so on), which means a “Plan G” offers the same core benefits no matter which company sells it. That standardization is a gift — it lets you compare on price and service instead of deciphering fine print.
The Big Advantage: Go Anywhere
Because Medigap rides alongside Original Medicare, you can see any doctor or hospital in the country that accepts Medicare — no networks, no referrals. For folks who travel, split time between states, or live in rural areas where Advantage networks are thin, that freedom is often the deciding factor.
Predictable Costs, Higher Premium — Read This Closely
You pay a monthly premium, and in return your out-of-pocket costs when you need care stay low and predictable. Here’s the part a lot of folks miss, though: “predictable” doesn’t automatically mean “cheaper.” Those premiums are a guaranteed cost whether you use any care or not — and in some situations, especially as Medigap premiums climb with age, a full year of them can actually add up to more than an Advantage plan’s entire maximum out-of-pocket for the year. So the “safe” route isn’t always the lower-cost route. It genuinely depends on your health, your age, and the real numbers in your area — which is exactly why we run them for you instead of assuming.
Medigap and Your Prescriptions
One important note: Medigap does not include drug coverage. So most people pair a Medigap plan with a standalone Part D plan to cover their prescriptions. Trying to decide between this route and an all-in-one Advantage plan? That’s the big one — see Medigap vs. Medicare Advantage.
